My Tattoo Story
When I was younger our house caught fire and I received horrific 2nd and 3rd degree burns all over my body. I’ve always been very very shy and have covered up as much of myself as possible when out in public. The first time I spoke with an artist about covering up my scars with a tattoo they told me it would be impossible because the skin was so delicate. I really wanted them gone and eventually found an artist willing to at least try. It couldn’t look any worse. The artist chose a flower to cover the scar tissue because it would be the best to make the texturing dissappear or at least appear part of the tattoo. I chose to add the bee to the tattoo because bees are free to fly away and I wanted this to be the first tattoo for me to start flying away. I chose a violet for my flower tattoo because violets have a lot of connection to sadness and my scars are what cause me to be sad so much it seemed fitting. It means a lot to m that with these flower tattoos I can cover up my scars and begin to heal from the horrific experience. I had tried many skin treatments before to try and lessen the look of the scars but nothing had worked as well as this violet flower tattoo.
When and Where
I got the tattoo done at a convention in Roanoke Virginia. It is about a 3 hour drive from where I live in North Carolina. The artist wanted to do it there so it could be entered and hopefully win a prize in some of the competitions but we didn’t win anything. The artist goes by Red Lotus, she did an amazing job and has done several other flower tattoo pieces on me since to cover up more of the scars.
The Experience
It was amazingly painful. I expected my scar tissue to have a lot less feeling than the rest of my skin but it seemed that the scar tissue was far more sensitive than anything else. The tattoo took almost 2 hours as we had to keep stopping and taking breaks. It was also important for her to go slowly and take her time so as not to damage the skin further.
The Future
Absolutely I am planning more. I have a lot of scar tissue so I have many more flower tattoos to get to cover them up. I want to keep the flowers with the same theme so probably at least 2 or three poppy tattoos, and some more violet tattoos. I really love the little bee tattooed above the flower but I haven’t thought about getting any more bugs. I think this might be the only bug with the flowers but I do now have ivy tattoos on my feet climbing up to the violet..
