My Tattoo Story

This tattoo represents my kids. My son is the frog, he’s always hopping around places. My daughter is the fish, she’s kinda quiet and reserved and just wants to swim off on her own a lot. The artist added the lotus but I like it. I’ve never had a tattoo before and didn’t know what I wanted so I let her do what she felt was best for the design.
The tattoo is on my right shoulder where I can cover it for work. It’s pretty big, I didn’t realize it was going to be so big but it looks good at that size. I wanted lots of bright colors and she definitely went above and beyond what I expected. Everything is really solid and bright even after the 2 years I have had it.

When and Where

At the time I worked with this girl who was a tattoo artist. She was trying to save up money and wasn’t working in a studio at the time but had a studio at her house in Roanoke VA. I was somewhat concerned because I’ve heard bad things about people working at home but she was licensed just not working in a shop. Everything was sterile and she opened the needle packages in front of me and threw everything out when she was done.

The Experience

I had never had a tattoo before so I really did not know what to expect. The stencil was really cool because it was purple but had a metallic look to it when the light hit it. The tattoo didn’t hurt as bad as I expected. She said I sat like a champ for my first time. Something like a bad sunburn. It was really hard not to move and it took about 2 hours so my butt was numb by the time we had finished from sitting for so long. Once everything was finished and she wrapped it up it burned more than it did while she was doing it!

The Future

I don’t think I will get any more tattoos. I didn’t really think about getting the first one. It was pretty spur of the moment while we were at work one day we talked about it and then I just went over to her house and got it done. I can’t think of anything else I would want to get tattooed but if I did it would probably also be color and it would have to be somewhere I could hide it for work.
